Professional Faculty:

The St. Pius Elementary School educational team is composed of 64 faculty members. All teachers are certified by the Louisiana Department of Education. Nineteen members of the faculty members have a master's degree or higher. Many of those with a bachelor's degree are presently pursuing post-graduate degrees.

St. Pius teachers model the value of being life-long learners by participating in numerous professional development opportunities. Professional development is focused on “best practices” in education that help better address the diverse needs of students. During on-going self-study for SACS accreditation, teachers continue to identify the study and implementation of Differentiated Instruction as one means of meeting the needs of all students. This goal is supported by a recommendation of the Quality Assurance Review Team to “support the process of developing teacher-generated activities to meet the learning needs of all students". Teachers remain dedicated to expanding their knowledge base so that they can provide the differentiated instruction to which each student responds best.

St. Pius Elementary School faculty members participate in weekly professional development sessions. In addition, teachers have the opportunity to attend conferences, workshops and conventions throughout the year. During the month of June, teachers participate in a week of curriculum planning and technology training. The emphasis SPES places on professional development has made possible the exposure to national best practices in education, and implementation there of.

St. Pius Elementary School provides institutional memberships in the following professional organizations:

  • National Catholic Educators Association (NCEA)
